JOB DETAILS:
Country Director TRAIDE Rwanda
Background
The TRAIDE Foundation (http://traide.org) aims to increase sustainable trade and investment between the Netherlands and African markets. Our three main objectives are to (1) increase and support Dutch investment in and trade with African markets, (2) improve business climates and the enabling environment and (3) ensure that investments are implemented in a socially and environmentally responsible way. We provide tailored support to Dutch companies and aim to contribute to sustainable private sector development. TRAIDE has programmes in Ethiopia and Rwanda, and is active in different sectors, including agriculture, renewable energy, circularity and digitalization.

For our office and programme in Kigali, Rwanda, we are looking for a new Country Director. TRAIDE Rwanda is a three-year programme that aims to attract Dutch investors and stimulate sustainable investment between the Netherlands and Rwanda. The programme supports local private sector development and enables (Dutch) companies to do responsible business in Rwanda. Activities include the development of business opportunity reports, matchmaking services, support with responsible business conduct and investment cluster development. The programme is funded by the Netherlands government and runs until 2025.

Position
As our Country Director, you will work closely with our team in Rwanda, as well as with our teams in the Netherlands and Ethiopia. You are the programme’s first point of contact for companies, the Netherlands Embassy, the Rwandan and Dutch governments, and our internal teams. You are responsible for strategic guidance of the programme, translating outputs into new and concrete activities, identifying new business opportunities, building and maintaining good networks between Dutch and Rwandan stakeholders, managing the team, and ensuring the overall quality of the programme.
Tasks and activities
The TRAIDE Foundation is looking for a creative, ambitious, independent and assertive candidate to cover the position of Country Director Rwanda. S/he will fulfil several activities. These include – but are not limited to – the following:
• Manage the Rwanda office and local team (5 members)
• Partake in the management team of the Foundation (together with Country Directors in Ethiopia and the Netherlands)
• First point of contact for the programme for external stakeholders, including the Netherlands Embassy, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), Dutch and local companies, and government institutions
• Identify business opportunities and translate business leads into concrete activities and successes for the programme
• Ensure high-quality MERL reporting, in collaboration with the team, and the set-up of a learning agenda
• Encourage and oversee business development activities within Rwanda, as well as in neighbouring countries (e.g. Uganda, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania)

Our ideal candidate is/has…
• An academic background (Master’s level) in economics, agriculture, sustainable development, sustainable business, international relations, or related field
• At least 5 to 10 years’ working experience, preferably in an emerging markets context
• Business-minded, proactive and flexible
• Able to take responsibility and committed to providing high-quality outputs
• Able to quickly shift between different tasks and sectors
• Strong writing skills
• Strong communication skills, with the capability of building and maintaining good relationships with various Dutch and Rwandan stakeholders, as well as our donors
• A team player with strong interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of private sector development, international business and financial instruments
