Overview:
The Development Associate will work alongside our Development Manager to maintain relationships with our current funders and seek new funding opportunities. The Development Associate will manage and grow our grant portfolio by researching new prospective foundations, writing grant reports for existing funders, and supporting the Development Manager in writing new grant proposals. The Development Associate will contribute to our campaigns to raise funds from individual donors and will also coordinate donor visits.
The Development Associate will report directly to the Development Manager and will regularly meet with other teams within the organization to stay informed of program updates.
This position is an exciting opportunity as there is a high potential for promotion to the role of Development Manager after several months.
GHI seeks to hire qualified, committed and experienced National to fill the following position:
Position: Development Associate
Place of Work: Kigali with travel to the field as required
Reports to: Development Manager
Time frame: Open Ended

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Manage Grant Portfolio
• Manage and implement grant reporting process
• Research and identify new prospective funders
• Support the Development Manager in writing new grant proposals
• Track progress and follow up on prospective funder relationships
• Prepare the Executive Director and Development Manager for conferences and networking events
Support Individual Donor Fundraising Campaigns
• Support the Development Manager to design and carry out fundraising campaigns throughout the year
• Manage donor thank you systems
• Coordinate donor visits in Rwanda
Collaborate with GHI Staff
• Serve as a member of the Development and Communications Team
• As needed, support the Communications Fellow and Communications Interns
• Work closely with all other teams to assemble funding proposals and embed development efforts into each team’s workflow


Qualifications
• Passion for Gardens for Health’s vision and values
• Bachelor’s degree in social development or any other related studies.
• Fluency in English
• Comfort interacting with people from different cultures and backgrounds; most of our funders and donors are from the U.S.
• At least 2-3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a non-profit setting
• Demonstrated success in grant writing, reporting, or fundraising
• Exceptional written communication skills and the ability to tailor content to diverse audiences, including foundations, major donors, multilateral organizations, and individual supporters
• Strong organizational skills, high level of attention to detail
• Ability to manage deadlines and balance competing priorities
• Demonstrated ability to respond proactively to unstructured environments and to navigate challenging situations and relationships with creativity and diplomacy
• Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
