RICEM (Rwanda Institute for Cooperative, Entrepreneurship, and Microfinance) was launched in June 2014 as a Vocational Technical Institute for the three pillars, namely Cooperatives, Entrepreneurship, and Microfinance. In partnership with AMIR (Association of Microfinance Institutions in Rwanda), RDB (Rwanda Development Board), and DSIK (German Sparkassenstiftung Eastern Africa), RICEM has been implementing the Certified Microfinance Professional program Level 1 (Dual System) since 2017 and Level 2 was launched in 2023. As a result of the program's success in the pilot phases and national rollout, RICEM formed a partnership with CHANCEN International to ensure that the program reaches more people and contributes to the professionalism and growth of Rwanda's microfinance sector at large.

Program description

CMP level 1 (Dual System)

The Dual system program is a 12-month capacity development intervention, specifically targeting young adults. The training is built around a competency-based approach to teaching and learning, which includes the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behavior. The Dual Training method places a strong emphasis on practical knowledge and skill application, which is reflected in the learning environment's rotational design, with 20% theory-based learning at the training academy and 80% practical workplace learning (MFIs/SACCOs). After successfully passing all the relevant exams, apprentices are certified microfinance practitioners.

CMP Level 2

The Certified Microfinance Professional (CMP) Level 2 represents the senior tier, comprising individuals occupying strategic and managerial roles within the Microfinance sector. This comprehensive program is designed to accommodate diverse schedules through various delivery channels, such as weekend sessions with an additional day, weekly sessions, or a hybrid approach. The curriculum encompasses nine distinct modules, each thoughtfully structured to be completed over the course of one month. 

In this regard, we would like to announce that the forthcoming launch of the 2024 intake for the CMP Level 1 and Level 2 training programs. The initiation is scheduled to commence with preliminary meetings in January 2024, marking the beginning of an exciting journey for participants. Key details are as follow :
