JOB DETAILS:
Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) is an international non-governmental organization that specializes in the design and construction of pedestrian footbridges. We are looking for a Design Engineer (DE) for our Rwanda Team. The DE is able to provide all technical services in the preparation of a bridge design project and subsequent documentation, focusing mainly on the design of new suspension and suspended bridge projects. The position is located within a program country and only works within the program .
Responsibilities
Bridge Design
• Design and check designs of suspended and suspension bridges independently
• Design Safety Lines for suspension and suspended bridges
• Produce professional engineering drawings and compile/check full plan sets
• Assess prospective bridge sites for technical approval (process survey, evaluate aerial imagery, preliminary design alternatives)
• Collaborate with Engineering Manager for technical innovations
• Calculate material quantities for suspended and suspension bridge projects
• Support Engineering department with technical surveys of prospective project sites when needed
Program Support
• Liaise with Engineering Manager to ensure program engineering needs are met
• Coordinate work with temporary engineering staff
• Join meetings with external partners alongside other program staff at times if and when technical questions may need answering
Project Support
• Mark excavations and layout site at the onset of a project
• Support bridge construction projects solving technical queries coming from the field
• Support quality assurance engineer with quality control related tasks for the bridge projects
• Perform technical inspections of constructed bridges if needed

Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering
• Minimum 3 years of related engineering experience
• Sound technical knowledge in the field of structural engineering
• Familiarity with surveying and use of surveying equipment
• Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Proficiency in MS Project
• Proficiency in AutoCAD drafting
• Full Driving License
• Exceptional, professional, and details-oriented organizational skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high problem-solving skills
• Capable of working with different cultures and languages
• Ability to work independently after given clear direction
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Creative, energetic, and self-motivated
Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE/SE), IER registered or equivalent
